Until now, we only knew about two techniques in breast augmentation: the subglandular and submuscular implant placement techniques. In 2002, the SubFascial technique was also introduced. Our technique (The Dual Plane) combines the two last ones: the silicone implant is placed both underneath the muscle and underneath the muscle fascia.
This is a greatly simple technique. The above part of the silicone implant is covered by the pectoralis major muscle and the lower part by the muscle fascia (a thin tissue that covers the muscle). Duration time of the breast augmentation procedure is 30-45’. There are no drains, bandages or suffocating compression garments around the breasts.
The advantages:
- Much fewer complications, such as the formation of capsular contraction which occurs in 1-20% of women who have had breast augmentation surgery. By placing the implant below the muscle and the fascia, we minimize the implant’s contact with the mammary gland.
- A natural result particularly for thin patients with very small breasts
- The possibility of breast ptosis is reduced. The muscle and the fascia hold the implant in place.
- Breast implant defects due to the strength exercised by the pectoralis major, such as the so-called “open breast” abnormality, are avoided
- Reduced possibility of palpating the implant’s edges
- No wrinkles are formed on the upper part of the breast
- Recovery is fast thanks to the combination of the Dual plane and the Non touch-No pain Complications and revision surgery percentages are currently below 1%.
- The level of satisfaction reaches 98-99%.
The background: This is a new breast augmentation technique based on a modification of Dr John Tebbetts’ technique from Texas.
The characteristics of the technique
This evolved dual plane technique lasts about 45 minutes. Upon leaving the surgery the patient does not need either drainage tubes or corsets. So, the combination of the “Non touch-no pain” technique and the dual plane breast augmentation technique has minimized complications to 1%. Of particular importance is the fact that 99% of women who have undergone this technique have been extremely pleased with the natural outcome and the amazing recovery.
The disadvantages
The doctor needs to be greatly experienced in performing this technique.
The award
In June 2007, Mr. Evangelos Keramidas’ paper “Composite Plane Breast Augmentation: A new Concept” was awarded in Berlin, among 500 papers from around the world during the International Plastic Surgery Conference. This paper is about the dual plane technique.
