Sclerotherapy treats varicose and spider veins, offering your legs an even skin tone.
They are blue or red and they may look like a spider’s web. Broken capillaries in your legs are nothing else but small veins that break. Other symptoms include tired, heavy legs and discomfort (itchy sensation). Broken capillaries are rarely related to peripheral vascular disease, something that often happens with the varicose veins, which are bigger. However, broken capillaries are an aesthetic problem that embarrasses many women as they are visible from short outfits. The causes include family history, bad genes, hormones and they get worse due to factors such as sun exposure, heat, sedentary lifestyle, prolonged standing and obesity. The good news is that sclerotherapy injections make them disappear in 3 sessions maximum.

The sclerotherapy treatment
The procedure is relatively painless and no anesthesia is required. The treatment takes place in the doctor’s office and the patient may return home immediately. The doctor uses tiny needles to infuse sclerotherapy substances (polidocanol) in the capillaries. The polidocanol closes the problematic capillary which becomes smaller until it is completely invisible. 1-3 sessions are required per 6-8 weeks. The sclerotherapy treatment can also be applied on very small varicose veins, but in most cases the best treatment for this problem is surgery.
The downtime
You will wear special compression stockings/socks for about one week. Any bruising and swelling will go away in a few days. If you choose to do the sclerotherapy treatment during the summer, you have to avoid any sun exposure.
Is there any relapse?
The doctors suggest you should avoid any exercise on vibration machines, as well as sauna and exposure to heat. Obesity, pregnancy, prolonged standing, smoking and birth control pills may also make the situation worse resulting in the relapse of capillaries after some years. This is why you should consult your doctor annually, so that they may intervene early and fix the problem on time.
